Postdoctoral Fellowship in Computer Vision and Psychology

Departments of Psychology and Computer Science, Stanford University

PIs: Michael C. Frank (Psych) and Fei-Fei Li (CS)

Analysis of human behavior from video data is an emerging topic in computer vision as well as in developmental and cognitive psychology. This postdoctoral fellowship is funded through an interdisciplinary project co-advised by Profs. Michael C. Frank (Psych) and Fei-Fei Li (CS) at Stanford University. The focus is to develop state-of-the-art computer vision and machine learning systems to study children¡¯s access to visual and social information in the first years of life. We use newly-collected dense video data (from head-mounted cameras) to ask questions about what it is like to be a baby. To answer these questions, we need to create computer vision algorithms that can recognize faces, people, objects as well as activities carried out by people.

Candidates for this position should have a PhD in Computer Science or a Cognitive Science-related field and a significant technical track record including publications in top machine learning and/or computer vision conferences and journals; they must also be able to show experience with relevant computer vision techniques. The ideal candidate would blend technical expertise with an interest in human psychology as an application area, and would be enthusiastic about building a research program at the intersection of computer science and cognitive science.

The position will be available starting summer or fall of 2012, and will last through a term of 2 years (with a 3rd year possible). Salary will be competitive. Prospective applicants should apply with a cover letter, CV, research statement, and the names and email addresses of three references. Please send applications to maureen.sullivan@stanford.edu.
